Duties and Responsibilities: Position Summary

The VP of Finance is accountable for administration processes and transactions of the St James Assiniboia Minor Hockey Association, internal/external audits, bookkeeping and bank accounts.

The VP of Finance will be accountable for securing grant funding through appropriate avenues available to the organization. They will look for opportunities to enhance our cash flow into the organization to keep registration costs affordable for members.

The following is a listing a of key duties, but is not meant to be exhaustive:

  • Direct the Bookkeeper in making all entries into the Association’s accounting software to ensure accurate financial records are kept
  • Work with the Bookkeeper to ensure Association ice is invoiced in a timely manner
  • Liaise with the Chair Allard Arena to ensure the facility has the funds required for maintenance and capital upgrades
  • Liaise with the Association Registrar to facilitate the registration process and ensure all fees are paid by members
  • Will be a signing authority along with the President, Secretary and Bookkeeper
  • Will present year to date financial information at monthly meetings of the Board
  • Will liaise with the Bookkeeper in ensuring a financial review by a qualified third part is completed on an annual basis
  • Will work in co-operation with the Board in developing the Association’s operating budget
  • Will be responsible for SJAMHA bank accounts maintenance and management
  • Will report to the Board

The ideal nominee should have:

  • Diplomacy, negotiation, and collaboration skills
  • An understanding of SJAMHA operations and practices
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to respond immediately to queries, issues, and requests for support
  • Strong facilitation skills to lead discussions with large groups of people
  • An understanding of QuickBooks
  • A degree or professional designation in accounting or finance would be considered an asset

Compensation:

St James-Assiniboia Minor Hockey Association will remit to the Vice President Finance an honorarium of $1,000 per fiscal year.
