Duties and Responsibilities: Position Summary

The Chair Allard Arena is accountable to the Executive of the Board and is responsible for the day-to-day facility operations to ensure successful delivery of arena related activities. This involves the supervision of paid staff and working closely as a resource to other Board members. A Strong mechanical aptitude, excellent people skills and solid grasp of current technology are valuable traits in consideration of this position.

The incumbent will provide guidance to arena staff and liaise with the board and other agencies as necessary.

The following is a listing a of key duties, but is not meant to be exhaustive:

  • To supply and have present in the Arena at all times when it is open to the public and there is skating ice therein, a member of its staff holding a Refrigeration Class Power Engineer Certification from the Province of Manitoba.
  • Ensure snow and ice clearing are completed by Operators from the entrances to the Arena passageways thereof and of the parking lot, except from the areas of the parking lot that are required to be cleared by the Association’s snow removal contractor.
  • Direct Operators to complete all janitorial, cleaning, housekeeping, and security services.
  • The coordination of all preventative and routine maintenance, repairs and replacements
  • To liaise with, and co-ordinate services with, the requirements of permitted users of the Arena and with any other contractors of the Association.
  • To ensure inspection of Arena facilities is competed daily and promptly report to the Association any and all unsafe conditions or situations
  • Participates in the recruitment, evaluation and dismissal of all employees at the Arena.
  • Reviews and approves payroll of other staff prior to processing.
  • Assist the VP Finance with gathering information relating to invoicing and vendor payments.
  • The incumbent must have good skills in dealing with people, both in person at the Arena, on the phone, by email and via social media (if and when necessary).
  • Schedule and oversee work done in the Arena by outside contractors and ensure that all protocols have been met (insurance requirements, permits etc.).
  • Oversees daily and preventative maintenance and general caretaking performed by other Arena employees or volunteers.
  • Orders and receives all supplies required by the Arena
  • Assists the board to Identify, determine costs and evaluate all projects of a major upgrading or capital nature for consideration and approval by the Board of Directors.
  • Arranges for or picks up fuel as required for equipment at the Arena
  • Ensure maintenance of furnaces and water heaters is completed on a regular basis
  • Report any damage to the Executive and Board

Compensation:

St James-Assiniboia Minor Hockey Association will remit to the Chair of Allard Arena an honorarium of $600 per month, while the Arena is in use.
